Suzuki GSX 1100 SD Katana

Suzuki GSX 1100 SD Katana

The 1980s were a pretty good decade for motorcycles though. Two-strokes still reigned supreme in grand prix racing, and some of America’s best two-wheeled heroes were riding them.

On the other side of the pond, the Classic TT at the Isle of Man is an event worth watching, and the bike we see here is ready for the Endurance Legends 4-Hour Race at Donington Park later this year.

It is a Suzuki GSX1000SD Katana, built by the Team Classic Suzuki outfit – a special factory racing team support by the Japanese manufacturer. It drips with an iconic 35-year-old design, with some modern world thinking as well. It’s tasty AF.

Puts The Racer In Cafe Racer:Yamaha XSR900 Abarth 2017

Yamaha XSR900 Abarth 2017

The XSR900 Abarth was designed alongside the car company, thanks in large part to their association through Yamaha's MotoGP team and FIAT. To give the XSR the Abarth treatment, a carbon nose cowling and rear seat cowling were added, as well as a low-slung handlebar and fancy Akropovic exhaust. The final touches came in the form of a suede seat, gray paint job with red speed blocks, and Abarth logos.

The full titanium exhaust and lower bars will give this new version of the XSR a decidedly more sporty feeling.

Yamaha is only making 695 of the Abarth edition, no word yet on price or whether any of those will be available Stateside.

Rough Crafts X MV Agusta: Ballistic Trident

Rough Crafts X MV Agusta

It takes a very, very brave builder to tackle an MV Agusta. The slogan of the Varese company is ‘Motorcycle Art,’ and for once, the advertising is true.

But Winston Yeh didn’t baulk when he got a call from MV Agusta’s people in Taiwan. A gleaming new Brutale 800 RR was soon delivered to his workshop in Taipei, ready for a unique Rough Crafts makeover.

Total Control. Honda CBR1000RR 2017

Honda CBR1000RR 2017

Superbikes have always been special machines, offering levels of power, handling, and refinement no other streetbikes can match. The new 25th anniversary CBR1000RR is a Superbike where the rider comes first. Where you get a degree of connection unlike anything in the class. Available in three distinct model options this year, it’s designed to dominate in the most important category of all: rider satisfaction.

The all-new 2017 CBR1000RR is lighter, more powerful and faster than any CBR1000RR we’ve ever produced. Trackdays your specialty? Racetrack riding puts special demands on any machine, and you’ll find Honda’s new CBR1000RR SP is up to that challenge. Available in limited numbers, it has all the features of our new 2017 CBR1000RR, but adds premium Öhlins electronic suspension, Brembo brakes, a titanium muffler, and more. In addition to the SP, Honda is offering an even more exotic CBR1000RR SP2 in extremely limited numbers for the most serious enthusiasts and professional racers. The CBR1000RR SP2 incorporates all the special features of the CBR1000RR SP, and adds bigger intake and exhaust valves and lighter forged Marchesini wheels.

Soothe the Savage: Herencia’s Upgraded Honda CBX

Herencia Honda CBX

Ah, the late 70s: a time when ‘superbikes’ were naked brutes, and more cylinders were the order of the day. And the Honda CBX is the poster child for that era. Powered by a 1047cc inline six, the CBX punched out 105bhp. It was an insane figure back then, and still respectable by today’s standards...

The 1972 DT2MX 250 was a motocross machine. While Yamaha’s AT1 125, DT1 250, and RT1 360 were best suited for trail riding and desert scrambles, the 1972 DT2MX was the very first Yamaha motorcycle designed specifically for motocross. A predecessor of the YZ250A that debuted in 1974, the DT2MX featured a 246cc, two-stroke, reed-valve-inducted, single-cylinder engine equipped with CDI ignition and Autolube, which automatically mixed oil with the gas. Compared with Yamaha’s DT1 250 enduro bike, the engine in the DT2MX was lowered 40mm in the frame, which enabled the exhaust system to be routed above the cylinder head for better ground clearance. Durable, lightweight plastic fenders and shouldered-aluminum wheels were standard. (Link in Bio) #yamahaofyesterday #throwbackthursday #tbt #motocross #supercross #mx

With all due respect to the 1978 Yamaha XS1100E, the 1984 #yamahaofyesterday FJ1100L was Yamaha’s first liter-class sportbike, with its 1,097cc, air-cooled, 16-valve, four-stroke, four-cylinder engine producing a level of horsepower that was hitherto unknown outside a racetrack. At the time of its launch, it was the world’s fastest production motorcycle. The bike featured a 16-inch front wheel for quick steering that matched its straight-line stonk. Centrally ventilated, dual disc brakes up front and a centrally ventilated, single disc brake in the rear brought the FJ1100 to a quick stop. After two years of production, the bike was revamped into the FJ1200, and then, in 1987, it was re-categorized as a sport-touring machine with the introduction of the FZR1000T. #ThrowbackThursday #TBT #Vintage #Motorcycle #Yamaha
